Vol. 504 No. 2

Written Answers. - Liquor Licensing Laws.

Liz McManus

Question:

204 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has been consulted by the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform regarding changes in the liquor licensing laws; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11364/99]

I can confirm that my Department, in conjunction with other Departments has been consulted by the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform in relation to the proposed changes in the liquor licensing laws. The national alcohol policy was developed by my Department and was launched in 1996 and the main thrust of that policy is directed at reducing the prevalence of alcohol related-problems through an emphasis on moderation in alcohol consumption. My Department has submitted observations consistent with the recommendations set out in that policy.
