Vol. 504 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda Recruitment.

Ivor Callely

Question:

72 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the minimum height regulations for entry to the Garda Síochána; if he will review the current height regulations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11201/99]

The height requirements for applicants for the Garda Síochána are prescribed by regulation.

The current regulations, the Garda Síochána (Admissions and Appointments) Regulations, 1988, stipulate that male applicants must be not less than five feet nine inches in height and female applicants not less than five feet five inches in height.

The height requirements are currently under review.
