Vol. 504 No. 2

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Michael Ring

Question:

112 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources when the lights at Rinroe Pier, Killgalligan, Carrowtigue, Ballina, County Mayo, will be restored for safety purposes particularly in view of the fact the fishing season will commence in the area shortly; and if there will be an extension to the pier. [11638/99]

Rinroe pier is owned by Mayo County Council and its maintenance and development is the responsibility of the local authority. As the pier is located in a Gaeltacht area, the question of funding for any proposed development works would be a matter in the first instance for the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands.

I have arranged for the Deputy's specific concerns about the provision of lights at Rinroe pier to be conveyed to the local authority.
