Richard Bruton

Question:

97 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the case made by a number of Dublin universities for a rebate of VAT charged in respect of the third framework programme research contracts; his views on the case being made; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11799/99]

My attention has not been drawn to the case made by a number of Dublin universities for a rebate of VAT charged in respect of the third framework programme research contracts. I understand, however, that there may be a disagreement between the universities and the EU Commission regarding payment by the EU Commission of VAT costs incurred under the third framework programme. If this is the case, it is a matter to be resolved by the universities and the EU Commission.
