Vol. 504 No. 4

Written Answers. - Military Action.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

93 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if Ireland has been requested by NATO powers for any assistance, such as the use of Shannon Airport or access to Irish airspace, during the military action in Yugoslavia; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9392/99]

Under the Air Navigation (Foreign Military Aircraft) Order, 1952, foreign military aircraft require the permission of the Minister for Foreign Affairs to overfly or land in the State. Permission for overflights and landings is given on condition that the aircraft in question are unarmed, carry no ammunition, do not engage in intelligence gathering and are not involved in military exercises.

We have not been asked for any assistance relating to the military action in the FRY.
