Adjournment Debate Matters

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy McGennis – the need to enforce existing licensing procedures for petrol stations under the Dangerous Substances Act, 1972; (2) Deputy Browne (Wexford) – the need to appoint extra veterinary inspectors to County Wexford to enable owners of meat processing factories to operate to departmental standards and new meat processing licence applications to commence operations; (3) Deputy Jim Higgins – the urgent need for the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise and Employment to ensure that the IDA and Forbairt seek a replacement industry following the announced closure of TJT Limited, Kiltimagh, County Mayo; (4) Deputy Killeen – the need to put in place an independent mechanism to monitor the modus operandi and determinations of the Revenue customs and excise service; (5) Deputy Shortall – the need for the Minister for Health and Children to indicate the steps he intends to take on foot of a report which demonstrates that more than 50 per cent of children are admitted to adult hospital wards; (6) Deputy De Rossa – the need for the Government and the EU to provide additional finances for the United Nations High Commission for Refugees in view of intense strain being placed on its resources arising from the Kosovo refugee crisis; (7) Deputy Broughan – the need for the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs to urgently clarify the new proposed arrangements for the administration of disability benefit.

The matters raised by Deputies De Rossa, Killeen, Shortall and Broughan have been selected for discussion.
