Vol. 504 No. 6

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

P. J. Sheehan

Question:

34 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the plans, if any, he has for the development and improvement of Baltimore pier and harbour in view of the fact that it is a recognised fishery harbour for herring landings. [11828/99]

The development of Baltimore Harbour is the responsibility of Baltimore and Skibbereen harbour commissioners in the first instance. A development plan for the harbour, with a total estimated cost of £3.3 million, was commissioned by the commissioners some years ago and was submitted to my Department for consideration.

The development requirements for the harbour, taking account, inter alia, of the needs of the local fishing industry, will be assessed in the context of the overall priorities for coastal infrastructure development, and in light of available funding under the National Plan 2000-2006.
