Vol. 504 No. 7

Written Answers. - Compensation Payments.

John McGuinness

Question:

179 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the progress, if any, made to pay compensation to category three mulder farmers; if there is any EU decision likely in the matter; the number of farmers affected; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12926/99]

The payment of compensation to producers who in 1993-94 were granted SLOM III (Mulder III) milk quotas is governed by the provisions of Council Regulation (EEC) No. 2330/98 of 22 October, 1998 and of Commission Regulation (EEC) No. 2647/98 of 9 December 1998. While claims for such compensation were lodged with my Department by the closing date of 30 January, 1999 by nine of the ten SLOM III quota holders in Ireland, it was not possible to offer compensation in any case as none of the applicants fulfilled the conditions for eligibility. The position was explained in writing to each of the persons involved.
