Question:

192 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Finance the state of readiness of his Department with regard to the year 2000 computer issue; if he will report on the position in relation to hardware and software; if a statement of compliance of readiness has been issued; if not, if and when such a statement will be issued; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12593/99]

Work is still ongoing in my Department on a programme of remedial work aimed at achieving Year 2000 compliance on all affected aspects of its operations in good time for the millennium changeover. This work covers computer hardware and software as well as other office equipment and plant. The Department is on target to achieve compliance by July on all critical aspects of its operations and this work is being closely moni tored by a Year 2000 committee, which reports to me. Progress to date on the Year 2000 project will shortly be published on the Department's web site. This information will be updated regularly and a statement of full compliance will be posted on the site in due course.

Along with all Government Departments, my Department reports on a regular basis to the Interdepartmental Year 2000 Monitoring Committee, established by Government to oversee achievement of Year 2000 compliance in the Civil Service. This interdepartmental committee, which is chaired by my Department, reports to Government every two months.
