Vol. 504 No. 7

Written Answers. - Motor Vehicle Registration.

Michael Finucane

Question:

260 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when a new computer system for vehicle registration will be in place for the Limerick County Council main office; and if the vehicle registration facility will be extended to the new regional office in Newcastle West, County Limerick. [12928/99]

I refer the Deputy to the reply to Question No. 35 of 27 April 1999 which sets out the position generally on the matter. The first local authority site for the system – Wexford motor tax office – will become operational during the summer. Once the system is proven it is intended to implement it as quickly as possible at all other 28 motor tax offices, and for this to take place over an 18 month period. As the planning for this aspect of the project has not yet been finalised, I am not in a position to give the Deputy a precise date for Limerick County Council within this general timescale.
