Vol. 504 No. 7

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Ivor Callely

Question:

40 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of buses expected to be freed up from other services and available to the general public particularly for use in the new service arrangements for school transport; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9091/99]

I understand that Dublin Bus commenced a replacement programme with effect from Monday 19 April 1999 which benefits farepaying pupils, including those being accommodated under the school transport scheme.

My Department has been advised that the vehicles in question are part of a replacement programme and will not add to the complement of public scheduled vehicles available for school transport.

The organisation of public scheduled services in the Dublin area is a matter for Dublin Bus, and does not come under my Departments remit. However, the matter has been referred to Dublin Bus and they have been requested to reply directly to the Deputy.
