Vol. 504 No. 7

Written Answers. - Redundancy Payments.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

116 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if a person (details supplied) in Dublin 8 should have received redundancy payments; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [12885/99]

My Department has no record of any application ever having been received from the person referred to by the Deputy. To qualify for statutory redundancy under the redundancy Acts, it is necessary for a person to have been in employment which was insurable under the social wel fare acts. The Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs would be in a position to determine whether in fact this person was ever in such employment. I wish to point out, however, that if more than two years have elapsed since the event there is no statutory redundancy entitlement.

If the person concerned wishes to discuss the issue further, officials from my Department would be happy to provide assistance. They may be telephoned directly at 6313033 or I would be happy to make whatever other arrangements the Deputy considers appropriate.
