Question:

65 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Defence the input, if any, he has had into the formulation of Government policy arising from Ireland's membership of the European Union, the United Nations and the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe and observer status at the Western European Union; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13311/99]

In accordance with normal procedures, I am consulted when any matters of policy impinging on my portfolio are being brought to Government for decision. Accordingly, such consultation takes place when any policy issues pertaining to my Department arising from Ireland's membership of the European Union, the United Nations and the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe as well as Ireland's observer status at the Western European Union, arise.
