The above figures differ slightly from numbers given in response to a similar question on 5 May last. The Southern Health Board has explained that 68 beds in St. Finbarr's Hospital were recently reclassified from "welfare" to "geriatric" beds, thus increasing the number of public geriatric beds in Cork city from 373 to 441. In addition, the board states that the number of private geriatric beds in Cork county is 763 rather than 741, as previously reported; this is because one private nursing home, of 21 beds, was omitted in error from the previous return and one bed has recently been added to another nursing home.
