Vol. 505 No. 2

Written Answers. - General Medical Services Scheme.

Gay Mitchell

Question:

132 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children if a person (details supplied) in Dublin 6W who had a colostomy and must purchase certain necessities at one location and drugs at another does not have to pay more than the new monthly limit in total. [13406/99]

The drug payment scheme will operate on the basis that a family will pay £42 per month for their prescribed medication.

It is recommended that the same pharmacy be used throughout the same month but as in this case due to individual circumstances the £42 payment can be made in the first pharmacy who in the initial period of the scheme will issue a receipt to show the second pharmacy that the £42 has been paid, and once the computer system is fully integrated the swipe card will show that the £42 threshold has been paid.
