Vol. 505 No. 5

Written Answers. - Teaching Qualifications.

Richard Bruton

Question:

138 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress, if any, to date in implementing the PCW commitment to review qualifications of specialist teachers with a view to upgrading their qualifications; and if a target date has been set for completion of these negotiations. [14146/99]

In accordance with the terms of the PCW agreement on the pay and conditions of teachers, a committee with an agreed independent chairperson was established to determine suitable qualifications, within the framework set out in CL 32/92, for appointments to permanent posts.

A separate committee with an agreed independent chairperson was established to adjudicate on applications for the payment of qualification allowances.

Both of these committees have met on a number of occasions and further meetings will be held on an ongoing basis.

If the Deputy has a particular case in mind he may submit the details to the post-primary teachers section of my Department and the case will be referred to the appropriate committee for consideration.
