Vol. 505 No. 5

Written Answers. - National Children's Strategy.

Jack Wall

Question:

59 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Health and Children if the group of senior officials from various Government Departments to oversee the preparation of a national children's strategy has been established; the persons involved; their respective Departments; if he will be seeking submissions from the non-governmental sector; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14079/99]

I met senior officials of the Government Departments that will be centrally involved in the preparation of the proposed national strategy on 18 May last to discuss formal arrangements for interdepartmental co-ordination in this task. A memorandum for Government on the action proposed as a result of this meeting is being finalised at present. It is envisaged that a steering group at assistant secretary level will have oversight of the strategy preparation and this group will be drawn from the Departments of Health and Children; Education and Science; Justice, Equality and Law Reform; Social, Community and Family Affairs; Tourism, Sport and Recreation and Environment and Local Government.

Submissions in regard to the strategy will be invited from members of the public and from interested organisations.
