Vol. 506 No. 2

Written Answers. - Ambulance Service.

Richard Bruton

Question:

253 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of ambulances dedicated to transporting non-ambulance patients to and from hospital services; and his views on whether this number is sufficient for the need in this respect. [15053/99]

The provision of ambulance services is the statutory responsibility of health boards, the deployment of resources to emergency or non-emergency duties is, therefore, a matter for the health boards in accordance with local needs and circumstances. I have, therefore, asked the chief executive officer of each of the boards to look into this matter and reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.
