Vol. 506 No. 2

Written Answers. - Teacher Training.

Richard Bruton

Question:

410 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the serious funding shortfall between the allowance from his Department of £3,626 and the true cost of £4,524 for the Froebel College, Black rock; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that the costs in this college are much lower than in other primary teaching colleges; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15044/99]

The matter of the level of my Department's funding in respect of students on full-time primary teacher training courses in the Froebel college of education has been the subject of recent discussions between the college authorities and my Department. The college has sought an increase in the rate of annual grant, and this is currently being processed.
