Vol. 506 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Principals.

Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

21 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Education and Science the plans, if any, he has to develop a package of support for teaching principals. [15534/99]

As the Deputy may be aware, a working group, which I established last year, is currently examining the rights, roles, duties and responsibilities of principals, both administrative principals and teaching principals, in primary schools. The group, chaired by Teri Garvey, and representative of the partners in education, has addressed the full range of issues of concern to principals. I understand that the work of the group is well advanced and I look forward to reading its report in the very near future.

Supports for teaching principals will be considered in light of the full range of issues in relation to principals and schools and detailed examination of the report of the working group.
