Vol. 506 No. 4

Written Answers. - Traffic Management.

Alan M. Dukes

Question:

55 Mr. Dukes asked the Minister for Education and Science the initiatives, if any, he has planned to facilitate the reduction of peak hour traffic generated by schools in urban centres. [15519/99]

School authorities, while obliged to ensure that schools adhere to the prescribed minimum of teaching hours per day, have discretion in determining opening and closing times.

While I am aware of a general increase in the volume of traffic in many urban areas, this is a matter appropriate to the authorities responsible for traffic regulation and management.
