Vol. 506 No. 4

Written Answers. - Road Traffic Offences.

Seamus Kirk

Question:

85 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if the Road Traffic (Traffic and Parking) Regulations, 1997 and 1998, in relation to parking on footpaths specifies the road width, footpath to footpath, on which an offence can be committed. [15667/99]

The legislative framework through which restrictions and prohibitions may be applied to the parking of vehicles on public roads is contained in sections 35 and 36 of the Road Traffic Act, 1994. The Road Traffic (Traffic and Parking) Regulations, 1997 and 1998, made by the Minister for the Environment and Local Government under section 35 of the 1994 Act, set out the specific range of controls which apply to the parking of vehicles including a general prohibition on vehicles parking on a footway. No additional specification, such as that referred to in the question, is provided for.
