Vol. 506 No. 5

Written Answers. - Medical Services.

Bernard Allen

Question:

137 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health and Children if the situation will be investigated where the Southern Health Board is refusing to fund the expense of travelling for medical treatment for a person (details supplied) in County Cork who has to travel to Dublin at least once a week with her infant due to the fact that the medical attention required by that infant is unavailable in the Southern Health Board region; and if the refusal of the Southern Health Board to fund their expenses under the Social Welfare (Supplementary Welfare Allowances) Act, 1975, or through any other scheme will be investigated. [15675/99]

The payment of travelling expenses in this instance is the responsibility of the Southern Health Board. I have asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to this case and reply directly to the Deputy as a matter of urgency.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

138 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Health and Children the measures, if any, he will take to provide a hospital admission for a person (details supplied) in County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15691/99]

The provision of medical services to eligible persons in County Waterford in this instance is the statutory responsibility of the South-Eastern Health Board. I have asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly.
