194 Ms Clune asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he will establish Government policy before the Council of Ministers meeting on 24 June 1999 following the recent public meetings on GMOs; if so, if he will give details of this policy; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am awaiting the report of the independent panel which managed the two part consultation debate held on 25 May and 3 June 1999. I have already indicated to the House that, on foot of this report and having regard to the written responses which my Department received on the consultation paper issued in August 1998, I will complete my review of national environmental policy in this area and issue a statement on the outcome. I understand that this whole process will not be completed by 24 June 1999.
