Vol. 506 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Richard Bruton

Question:

243 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if a resource teacher will be provided in the case of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 24; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15899/99]

I am aware of the case referred to by the Deputy. I understand that a psychologist from my Department recently carried out an educational assessment on the child in question and on a number of other pupils attending the school. The results of these assessments are not yet available. Once the assessment reports are available the school will apply for additional support. The support may take the form of full or part-time child care or additional teaching staff.

My Department's inspectorate will then investigate the level of special needs in the school in question and a decision will be made on the level of support to be provided.
