Question:

96 Mr. Durkan asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the number of persons on community employment or other training schemes; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [16018/99]

Community employment is the largest direct labour market intervention measure currently in operation and is focused specifically on re-integrating the long-term unemployed into the labour market. There were 38,991 participants on CE schemes at the end of April, a reduction of 121 on the previous month.

The total number of participants on FÁS programmes, including CE, at the end of April was 58,172. This figure may be broken down as follows:
