Vol. 506 No. 5

Written Answers. - Illegal Fishing.

Deirdre Clune

Question:

99 Ms Clune asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the number of prosecutions brought since 1990 for illegal taking of sea bass; the results of these prosecutions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15781/99]

I am advised that 19 prosecutions have been taken by the regional fisheries boards under the bass fishing conservation by-law. The results of the prosecutions were that fines and costs were imposed in all cases, with, in one case, the confiscation of a boat in addition to the imposition of a fine with costs.
