Vol. 506 No. 5

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

101 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the position in relation to the plan for development of the Casteltownbere fishing harbour centre, County Cork. [15795/99]

A consultancy study on the infrastructural requirements of Castletownbere fishery harbour centre which I commissioned last year has been completed and has put forward a range of costed development options for harbour facili ties. My Department is now completing the process of consulting all interested parties on these options, and the outcome of these consultations will inform early decisions on an investment strategy for the most cost-effective and appropriate development of facilities at Castletownbere.

I have already directed that site investigations are to be undertaken this year as preparation for development of new facilities at Dinish. My Department is examining tenders for these investigations and I expect to award a contract shortly.
