Vol. 507 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

106 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a number of children (details supplied) from north Kildare are scheduled to attend St. Rose's special school for dyslexic children, Tallaght, from September 1999, no transport is available and parents cannot make arrangements to cater for the situation; if he will make specific arrangements by way of special bus or grant toward this transport; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16238/99]

I am aware that there are an additional seven pupils from County Kildare enroling in the school referred to by the Deputy in September 1999.

Bus Éireann, which operates the school transport service on behalf of my Department, is presently investigating the introduction of a special transport service for these pupils and a number of other pupils from the area.

The families of the pupils concerned will be contacted in this regard.
