Vol. 507 No. 3

Written Answers. - United Nations Training School.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

66 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Defence the number of personnel in the UN school at the Curragh; and the plans, if any, he has for the school. [16660/99]

The United Nations training school has a military staff of eight, consisting of one colonel, one lieutenant colonel, two commandants, one company sergeant, one sergeant, one corporal and one private. A civilian typist is also on the school staff. The United Nations school's primary focus is the training and preparation of Irish Defence Force personnel for participation in a wide range of peace support operations. It is intended that the school will continue to develop its studies and relationships in line with the changing nature and organisation of peace support operations generally.
