Vol. 507 No. 4

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Noel Ahern

Question:

244 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Education and Science the progress on the proposed new secondary school in Newport, County Mayo; if the site has been fully acquired; if he will give details of the site and its size; the planning stage which the new school has reached; and the timetable for future events including start of construction and official opening. [17111/99]

A site for the proposed new second level school for Newport has not yet been acquired. However, a site ofcirca 6.5 acres is being examined with a view to determining its overall suitability for the proposed new school.

Following site acquisition, a design team shall be appointed to commence architectural planning of the school.

At this stage, it is not possible to provide a timeframe for the delivery of this project.

[17112/99]

My officials have been in contact with representatives of the parents' committee and a meeting has been arranged for next week.
