Vol. 507 No. 4

Written Answers. - Agri-Food 2010 Committee.

Willie Penrose

Question:

23 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the terms of reference of the Agri-Food 2010 Committee; the number of meetings of the committee which will take place; the target deadline for the production of its report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16926/99]

The agri food 2010 committee is an independent committee of experts, which I have appointed, with the following terms of reference: to propose a strategy for the development of Irish agriculture and food over the next decade, following the agreement on Agenda 2000, and in the light of the changes and challenges which are likely to evolve nationally and internationally over that period. The number of meetings is a matter for the committee itself to determine, but I understand that there will be a plenary meeting at least once a month.

I appointed the committee on 24 May. It held its first meeting on 17 June 1999, and I expect its report to be produced as early as possible in the new year.
