Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Community Employment Schemes.

Ivan Yates

Question:

170 Mr. Yates asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the reason women on deserted wife's benefit are not given the same opportunity as those on lone parent's allowance to obtain places on community employment schemes in the review of eligibility for participation; and if she will remove this anomaly by making them eligible in order that applicants such as a person (details supplied) in County Wexford could avail of job offers under the community employment scheme through FÁS. [18393/99]

A working group, chaired by the Department of Social, Community and Family Affairs, is currently considering the issue of women's access generally to labour market opportunities and any further changes in eligibility criteria for admission to active labour market programmes will be made on foot of the recommendations of this group.
