Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Hospital Services.

Michael Ring

Question:

535 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will intervene between the Western Health Board and the Children's Hospital to ensure that funding is made available for a person (details supplied) in County Mayo who suffers from mental and physical handicap and severe uncontrolled epilepsy; the reason he was refused certain treatment from the Western Health Board in view of the fact that this procedure was carried out by other health boards; and if he will be approved the necessary treatment to improve his quality of life. [18362/99]

The provision of hospital services to persons in County Mayo in this instance is the statutory responsibility of the Western Health Board. I have asked the chief executive officer of the board to investigate the position in relation to this case and to reply to the Deputy directly.
