Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Public Service Management Act.

John Bruton

Question:

563 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if he has used section 12 of the Public Service Management Act, 1997, which allows for appropriate action to be taken on cross-departmental issues in a structured way; and the areas of work of his Department which are touching on the work of other Departments in respect of which cross-departmental arrangements might be appropriate. [17365/99]

I have not made an order assigning responsibilities under the provisions of section 12 of the Public Services Management Act, 1997. Key public service interrelationships are set out in my Department's statement of strategy and a variety of structures are availed of, including participation in committees, liaison and inter-departmental networks, to ensure effective, co-ordinated and linked responses to issues impacting on its work. I am satisfied these arrangements provide an adequate mechanism for the co-ordination of work with other Departments and I will keep the position under ongoing review.
