Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Strandhill Beach.

John Perry

Question:

575 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when the results and recommendations of an inspection report, carried out by an independent group of surveyors on Strandhill Beach, County Sligo, will be available; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that members of the survey team had to physically help launch the rescue craft over the boulders which inhibit the access to the slipway on the beach in order to deter people from swimming; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17482/99]

The report of the beach survey of Strandhill Beach, County Sligo, which I requested has been presented recently by the National Safety Council and is being examined in my Department. The report will shortly be sent to Sligo County Council which has responsibility for implementing many of the recommendations on safety at this location; I will then make the report public.

I understand that the incident to which the Deputy refers involved one of the survey team assisting in the launch of a jet ski to warn off bathers who had entered the water in spite of signage on the beach warning of the dangers for swimmers.
