Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - National Monuments.

Phil Hogan

Question:

717 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the progress made on the restoration of Kells Priory, County Kilkenny, through the specific involvement of the Office of Public Works; when this work will be completed; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [17671/99]

Works at Kells Priory, scheduled to commence this autumn, are being delayed as a result of difficulties in recruiting skilled staff. My Department is actively pursuing the recruitment of the necessary staff and conservation work will commence as soon as they are recruited.

The Office of Public Works no longer has responsibility for national monuments which are the responsibility of my Department.
