Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Seamus Kirk

Question:

736 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the plans, if any, he has to increase Garda strength in Castlebellingham, County Louth; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17280/99]

The detailed allocation of personnel to individual areas is a matter for the Garda authorities who have informed me that the current personnel strength of Castlebellingham is one sergeant and three gardaí. The strength was increased by one garda in 1998.

I am also informed that there are no plans at present to increase the personnel strength of Castlebellingham. The situation will, however, be monitored and reviewed by the Garda authorities with a view to ensuring that a satisfactory policing service is maintained.

Question:

737 Mr. Kirk asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when a sergeant will be appointed to Dunleer Garda station, County Louth; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17281/99]

The detailed allocation of personnel to individual areas is a matter for the Garda authorities who have informed me that, when members of sergeant rank next become available, the filling of the sergeant vacancy at Dunleer will be fully considered in conjunction with the filling of similar vacancies throughout the country.
