Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Transport.

Michael Ring

Question:

848 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Education and Science the reason the pick up point for school children from the Derradda Partry, Claremorris area in County Mayo has been changed to Toreen Road which is much more dangerous. [17455/99]

Safety on school transport is of paramount importance to my Department and to Bus Éireann, who operate the school transport scheme on behalf of my Department. Bus Éireann has a very good safety record in the operation of school transport and an ongoing commitment to highlight safety in this regard.

If the Deputy will supply the school transport section of my Department with details of the school attended by the pupils in question the matter will be investigated as a matter of urgency. The Deputy will be informed of the outcome as soon as possible.
