Vol. 508 No. 1

Written Answers. - Higher Education Grants.

Ivan Yates

Question:

880 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Education and Science if a person (details supplied) in County Wexford will be given grant aid approval under the higher education grants scheme for a course in view of the fact that it is similar to other courses in other colleges; and, if so, when this will be approved. [17806/99]

The NUI degree of B.Sc. in physiotherapy introduced by the Royal College of Surgeons has been approved for the purposes of the higher education grants scheme. However, under the terms of the higher education grants scheme, grants are not payable to candidates who already hold an undergraduate degree and are pursuing a second undergraduate degree. I understand that the candidate in question gained admission to the second year of the course by virtue of already holding a relevant primary degree. Accordingly, she is not eligible for financial assistance in respect of her attendance on this course.
