Seán Power

Question:

893 Mr. Power asked the Minister for Education and Science when discussions commenced within his Department to establish a new site for Gaelscoil Chill Dara; if a decision has been made in relation to access across the Curragh to the proposed site for the school at Lumville; and if the school authorities have been informed of the new plans. [18012/99]

Jack Wall

Question:

899 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Education and Science the position regarding the application of Gaelscoil Chill Dara national school, Curragh, County Kildare, for approval for a site; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18020/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 893 and 899 together.

My Department has been informed by the Department of Defence that it is not in a position at present to provide access through the Curragh to the site at Lumville. My Department advised the school authorities of this and requested them to enquire locally regarding alternative access to the site. In the meantime, my Department is examining other options for the provision of permanent accommodation for Gaelscoil Chill Dara. These include the possibility of amalgamating existing schools in the Curragh Camp which would free up accommodation for the Gaelscoil. The school authorities will be kept informed of any developments.
