Question:

946 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Education and Science the number currently in training in the post-graduate qualification teaching training course in the Mary Immaculate College of Education in Limerick; the number who applied for the current course; when the current course will come to an end; the plans, if any, he has to authorise the holding of a further course; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18281/99]

The information requested by the Deputy is as follows. The number currently in training in the post graduate qualification teacher training course in the Mary Immaculate College of Education in Limerick is 101. The number who applied for the current course is 579. The current course will end on 31 May 2000. My Department is currently in consultation with the Higher Education Authority and the authorities of the colleges of education about arrangements for a further such course which it is intended to run following the completion of the current course. The timing and details will be announced when the consultation process is complete.
