John Gormley

Question:

288 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the internal reports, if any, produced by Comhar on its works to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18847/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 287 and 288 together.

The chairman of Comhar is in receipt of an annual fee for his services, and members' expenses in connection with meetings are reimbursed in accordance with Civil Service rates and conditions.

With regard to the total allocation to Comhar, I refer to the reply to Question No. 14 of 3 March 1999, and to the Revised Estimates for Public Services, 1999.

As indicated in the reply to Questions Nos. 193 and 194 of 27 April 1999, Comhar is an independent body acting under terms of reference agreed by Government. To date, Comhar has developed its internal structures and working arrangements and has presented its work programme for the period 1999-2002 to me. I understand that this document has been widely circulated by Comhar. Apart from any reports or recommendations which Comhar may wish to make to me relating to my area of responsibility or in response to mat ters referred to it by me, I will receive annual reports on its activities.
