Brendan Howlin

Question:

67 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if the consultation process concerning genetically modified foods has been completed; if he has received any report arising from the consultation; if so, if he will publish the report; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18729/99]

Joe Higgins

Question:

102 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government when he will publish the report arising from the recent public consultation on genetic engineering; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18778/99]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 67 and 102 together.

I refer to the reply to Priority Question No. 58 on today's Order Paper. The consultation process on genetically modified organisms and the environment has been completed, and I received the report of the independent chairing panel on 28 July 1999. I will shortly publish the report with a statement on the outcome, defining national policy in this area.
