Vol. 508 No. 4

Written Answers. - Home Help Service.

Jack Wall

Question:

175 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Health and Children if his Department will investigate the position of persons in need of home help having to pay for this due to the fact that the time limit permitted by the health boards is not sufficient to meet their needs and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19327/99]

The home help service plays a vital role in the care of older persons in their own homes. I accept that some health boards are unable to provide the level of service demanded. This year I allocated £1.5 million to the health boards specifically to increase the level of home help service and I propose to supply additional resources as circumstances permit.
