Vol. 508 No. 4

Written Answers. - School Staffing.

Richard Bruton

Question:

253 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if his Department has guidelines in relation to the timetabling of teachers to teach in subjects for which they have no qualification and in respect of which they have no desire to teach; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19256/99]

My Department's policy is that, as far as possible, teachers should be timetabled to teach subjects in which they are suitably qualified. Teachers can also be timetabled in some curricular programmes in various modular areas which may not require a specific qualification in a given subject area.

Question:

254 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the fact that some schools are being forced to cut back on their remedial teaching complement following his announcement of the appointment of home-school liaison posts; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19257/99]

I am not aware of any instance where the remedial provision allocated to a school has reduced due to the expansion of the home-school community liaison scheme.
