Vol. 508 No. 4

Written Answers. - Pension Provisions.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

85 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if he will reduce the qualifying age for receipt of contributory or non-contributory old age pensions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18962/99]

I have no plans to lower the qualifying age for receipt of old age contributory or non-contributory pensions, which currently stands at 66 years.

Any reduction in this qualifying age would have major financial implications, especially in the light of future demographic projections.
