Vol. 508 No. 4

Written Answers. - Industrial Relations.

Ivan Yates

Question:

112 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the steps, if any, she is taking to ensure that a number of industrial relations difficulties within the CIÉ group are expeditiously resolved; and the role her appointee (details supplied) is carrying out in this regard. [19333/99]

The resolution of industrial relations difficulties within the CIÉ group is a matter, in the first instance, for the management and the trade unions concerned. I understand the industrial relations machinery of the State is being availed of by both sides in relation to some of these disputes. I am keeping myself informed in relation to the disputes.

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 2 of 10 December 1998 in relation to the role of the person referred to in his question. It is a matter for CIE to decide what role he should play in the resolution of the current industrial relations difficulties.
