Vol. 509 No. 1

Written Answers. - Drainage Schemes.

Gerry Reynolds

Question:

177 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Finance if funding will be made available in his Department's Estimate for 2000 for the drainage of the Melvin and Drowes rivers catchment area in Counties Donegal and Leitrim. [19534/99]

The Drowes river flows north west from Lough Melvin and enters Donegal Bay just west of Bundoran. The Lough Melvin-Drowes river catchment area does not form part of any arterial drainage scheme for which the Office of Public Works has a maintenance responsibility.

My office is fully committed at present to schemes on the current list of areas nominated for priority flood relief under the Arterial Drainage (Amendment) Act, 1995 which will absorb all its available resources for the foreseeable future.
