Jack Wall

Question:

229 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Health and Children the number of hospital beds used in the Eastern Health Board region for the first six months of 1999; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19852/99]

Monthly statistics are collected by my Department on the number of in-patient and day beds available for use in all publicly funded acute hospitals. For hospitals in the Eastern Health Board region, the average number of available inpatient beds for the first six months of 1999 was 4,230. These accounted for 678,742 bed days corresponding to an average occupancy level of 89 per cent. The average day bed complement over the period was 357, and a total of 76,311 patients were treated as day cases.
